Creating a Map in SHIELD

SHIELD has the capability of generating a map in the My Plan component from street address information or from KML data files.

  1. Login to your SHIELD account: https://SHIELDbcp.com
  2. Navigation to My Plan>Response>Team or to select a specific team.
  3. Click the chevron icon to the right of "Team" or the specific team you have selected and select "+Add Map" from the fly-out menu.

  1. To rename the map:

    a. Click the chevron icon to the right of the "New Map" created in the left menu.

    b. Select "Edit this Map".

c. Provide a new name for the map.

d. Click "Save".

  1. If you have not already prepared your address data for mapping purposes, go to Preparing Data for Use in a Map now and follow the steps.
  2. Once your data is prepared, click the chevron icon to the right of the "New Map".
  3. Select "+ Add Layer".

  1. A new section appears below the selected map called "New Markers".
  2. To edit the layer click the chevron icon to the right of "New Marker" and select "Edit this Layer".

  1. In the edit window:

    a. Change the name of the layer at the top.

    b. Choose the table/data containing the mapping data using the drop-down arrow.

    c. Select the columns that contain the mapping data by clicking the column names. Included columns are black. Columns not included will appear in strikethrough.

    d. Select how you would like the markers on your map labeled by choosing your label column from the drop down.

    e. Pick which rows are to be included in the map by selecting “Include all rows”, selecting “Select custom rows”. For “Select custom rows” select the rows you would like to have appear in the report.

    f. Once you have made your desired modifications click the green “Save” button.

Repeat steps 7) through 10) until all desired layers have been added. Each layer will be represented by a different color of markers on the final map. The layers and the labels for the associated markers (as defined in 10d.) can be turned on an off by checking and unchecking the Show Layer and Show Label boxes below the map.
